How to get from Zurich Airport to the city by transport

Zurich Airport, also known as Kloten, is located 10 km north of the center of Zurich. It is the largest international airport in Switzerland and in 2015 it accounted for more than 26 million passengers.

Between the airport and the city center there are two types of public transport lines: tram and train. In both cases, the ticket price for a one-way trip is 6.60 francs, and a 1-day ticket costs 13.20 francs. Tickets can be purchased online or at SBB machines in the arrival halls, as well as at Swissinfo machines. There you can also purchase a ZurichCard, which includes unlimited rides on all public transport routes.

The Zurich Tram Line No. 10 connects the airport and the main station, passing close to the University of Zurich and the Institute of Technology, as well as other regular stops. The whole trip to the main station lasts about 35 minutes.

Different regional and city trains, along with two local S-Bahn routes, S2 and S16, pass regularly and send you to the city center in just 10-15 minutes.

If you continue your journey beyond Zurich, there are different railway lines that go “straight” from the airport to other Swiss cities, for example: Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Winterthur, etc. To travel to other cities you need to get to the central station of Zurich and change the train there. The main station can be easily reached by train.

This minibus is at least once per hour, and the price is 25 francs. The ticket can be bought online. Almost all hotels use a bus service, so you must ask at the front desk for a trip to the airport.
