Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, also known as Vincenzo Bellini Airport, is the international airport of Sicily. Located 4.3 km southwest of Catania. This is the busiest airport in Sicily. In 2015, the total number of passengers was more than 7 million.
Traveling to and from the airport is easy, due to its proximity to the city center, but there are not so many options.
There is an organized shuttle service from AMT Alibus from Catania International Airport to the city center and the train station. The bus runs every 20 minutes, from 5.00 until midnight. The ticket costs 4 euros and is valid for 90 minutes, but you have to check it in the electronic ticket machine in the bus.
Travel time: 20 minutes to the main square (Duomo), 30 minutes to the train station
The point of departure and arrival by bus is located at the bus station, not far from the terminal building, about 50 meters from the airport entrance.
On the way back to the airport the bus has the same route (from the railway station and the main square)
The local bus line 457 will take you to the city center from Fontanarossa airport in 20 minutes, like Alibus, but you may have to wait a little longer because the public bus runs every 40 minutes. A single ticket costs only 1 euro! You must buy a bus ticket in advance, and you can do it at the airport. The point of departure of the bus is located at the bus station in front of the airport.
To get to your hotel in Catania or in the vicinity, or go to some other city, the easiest way is to book a door-to-door transfer. You can do it online.
Transfer companies will send a professional driver who will be waiting for you in the arrival area with a name and follow the arrival of the flight to see if your plane is late.
If you are traveling with small children, child seats can be pre-booked.
It is fashionable to use taxi services right at the airport of Catania, you will find them in front of the terminal building. However, to avoid fraud, use only an authorized taxi service called Radio Taxi Catania. You can even call them or order a taxi online using the mobile app. The price starts from 18 euros, depending on the location.
There are several car rental companies located in and around the airport, mainly local companies and three large companies — Sixt, Budget and Hertz. There is also an Avis rental company located a few steps from the terminal building (1.4 km), next to the Catania International Airport hotel. The easiest way to rent a car is to book online.
You can rent a bus before you arrive at the airport. This is the best option if you want to visit the beautiful places of Sicily. Please note that the bus must be booked in advance, and bus hire companies will inform you about the meeting place.
