Airports of Slovenia on the map

Currently there are 3 international airports in Slovenia, which are located in Ljubljana, Maribor and Portoroz, but in fact, the most popular flight to Ljubljana is in 99% of cases. But there are plans to expand the runway at Portoroz Airport, which can make it interesting for seasonal flights from many countries.

Ljubljana Airport — code IATA LJU — (

1.4 million passengers)

Ljubljana Joze Pučnik Airport is known as Nr. 1 in Slovenia, the airport is located approximately 26 km north of the city center. From the airport there is a bus to the city center, the journey takes about 50 minutes. As mentioned above, an airport in Ljubljana is in most cases the best option when traveling to Slovenia, especially if you are traveling to cities in the central, northern or northwestern part of the country. Some of the main attractions of Slovenia, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Triglav National Park and Postojna caves are quite close to the airport.

Airport Maribor — code IATA MBX — (

Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport is located about 10 km south of the city center, and the ride to and from the airport is carried out either by taxi or by pre-booked transfer. Currently, the airport is mainly used for seasonal and charter flights, which means that in most cases you will need to fly to Ljubljana airport if you are traveling to the Maribor area, alternative trips to Graz airport can be considered.

  • Portorož Airport — IATA POW Code

The airport in Portorož is located 6 km south of Portorož, which is mainly located on the border with Croatia, until now the airport has been used for small charter, business and cargo flights, but a plan to extend the runway from the current 1200 meters to 1800 meters can make Portoroz an attractive alternative to Trieste and Pula airports. The following cities are located within one hour from the airport: Trieste, Koper, all cities on the Slovenian Adriatic coast, Umag, Novigrad, Rovinj and Porec on the Istrian peninsula.

Zagreb Airport is only 40 km from the Slovenian border, 125 km from Maribor and 150 km from Ljubljana, so it can be used as an alternative when traveling to Slovenia.
