Also in the architecture of the building there are elements of the Romanesque and Baroque — the cathedral was erected for a long time. Due to the large number of windows in it is very light, and on the eastern facade there is the main window — the “Gothic rose”, it is decorated with a stained glass window with the star of David.

Monument of Muslim culture in Palma — Almudain Palace. During the rule of the Moors, he was the royal house and fortress. The Gothic church of St. Francis, built in the XIV century, is also worthy of attention. It is decorated with octagonal chapels in the Renaissance and Baroque styles, in one of them there is a sarcophagus with the remains of Raimund Llull, a famous philosopher and theologian of the 14th century.

The Sa Lodzha Exhibition Complex is another interesting old building with 4 octagonal-shaped battle towers and large windows with balconies. This complex hosts exhibitions of various topics, so it is doubly attractive for tourists.

Those who are interested in the history and culture of the country, you can see the museum quarter «Spanish Village». Here, monuments, significant historical buildings, streets, squares of different cities of the country are reproduced on a large territory. Also in this open museum there are houses where everyday objects of different epochs are exhibited, shops with souvenirs work.

Another significant historical building is the City Hall on its main square, Plaza Cort. It was built in the Baroque style, and all the furniture and interior decoration dates back to the XIX century. In the hall there are figures of people in Spanish folk costumes and demons from local legends. Official tours of the city hall are held on Sundays.

Outside the capital

Why is it worth visiting Palma de Mallorca and what to see here? The list of interesting places can be continued for a long time. But for those who have studied the main city and are looking for where else to go, it is recommended to go to Soller on a special old train. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century, and the interior of the cars was fully preserved. The railway was laid in the same period. It connects Soller with the main part of the island. The path passes through the mountains, forests and fruit groves, so that you can both admire nature and enjoy the old atmosphere. In Soller there is an opportunity to go to the port by tram of the beginning of the 20th century.

Other attractions of the island deserve no less attention. One of the most popular is the Monastery of Luke in the northwest in the mountains. This is the most important object of pilgrimage for believers, and ordinary tourists visit it. Its main shrine is a statue of the Holy Virgin. The hatch is made of dark stone. The monastery has an archaeological museum and a large botanical garden, as well as a hotel and camping.

Not far from Palma de Mallorca there is a circular Gothic castle Belver of the XIV century. the buildings. It consists of 4 cylindrical towers, and 3 of them are interconnected by a round fortification wall. The fourth is outside this circle.   • Cape Formentor is the northernmost point of the island. You can get to it from the city of Pollensa. The cape offers a magnificent view of the sea, the mountains and the neighboring island of Menorca, and under it there is a beautiful beach with white sand and clear water. There is also a 16th century watchtower, from which it is especially good to explore the surroundings, and a 19th century lighthouse.
  • Draconian Caves — a complex of 4 caves (black, white, French, Luis Salvador), which are replete with stalactites, grottoes, halls and underground lakes. In one of the reservoirs, musicians float in a boat and perform famous works, a fountain is made on the other. The caves are illuminated with lamps.
  • Arta Cave is one of the largest on the island. Only a few halls are open for visitors, and in them you can admire an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites. The impression is enhanced by the music and light show.
  • Natural Park Galatzo. Located in a mountain valley, replete with lakes, waterfalls, walking paths. Here you can not only walk, but also swim, have picnics, climb rocks.
