What is the date of the Presentation of the Lord
In the Orthodox calendar, special importance is attached to holidays associated with the flow of the earthly life of Jesus Christ. The feast of the Presentation of the Lord is extremely important for every believer, because on this day you can completely change your life with prayers to God and the Mother of God.
The Presentation of the Lord is one of the twelve Great Feasts celebrated by all Orthodox people. In the temples these days are held the longest festive services, and the prayers to the saints have special power.
When the Meeting of the Lord
The feast of the Presentation falls on February 15th. The Old Slavonic word “meeting” is translated as “meeting”, and means the meeting of God with people in the person of a priest, on the 40th day of the life of the Infant Jesus, who consecrated Him in faith.
The Virgin Mary brought her Son to the temple for consecration to the Christian faith on the 40th day, as was customary. In the temple they were met by an old man, who several years ago an angel appeared and promised that he would see with his own eyes the embodiment of the prophecy about the coming of the Savior.
Having received Jesus from the hands of the Virgin Mary, the elder realized that the prophecy had been fulfilled, and the Savior was indeed born on our Earth. The elder predicted to Mary the greatness of her Son and the suffering of her mother at the cross. After offering the sacrifice and consecration of Jesus to the faith, Mary, Joseph and Jesus returned to the city of Nazareth.
At present, the Presentation of the Lord is considered a Great Feast and is celebrated by all Orthodox. On this day, it is customary to light candles, food, and offer prayers not only to the Savior, but also to the Virgin Mary, who brought her Son to this world and raised Him in faith and faithfulness to her destiny.
Virgin Mary is prayed for the creation of a righteous family, the health of children, for a successful pregnancy and childbirth. Also, February 15 is considered the best time to pray for a change of destiny, finding mutual love and forgiveness of sins.
