Chinese New Year: how to celebrate and what to give February 8

The meeting of the Chinese New Year in Russia is far from uncommon. Many use this opportunity to once again make their cherished desires and leave all unnecessary in the past year. However, traditional celebrations in China are slightly different from the usual Russian festivities.

Holiday history and traditions

Chinese people celebrate the New Year celebration with the meeting of spring, since this night comes on the first day of the spring new moon. Each year, the date of the holiday varies depending on the lunar cycle.

There is an ancient legend about an evil monster that came to the surface of the earth and devoured everything that it would meet on its way. Therefore, for many millennia, people hid in their homes, locked all windows and doors so that nothing could get to them. They stocked up on provisions and prayed to the gods for 24 hours and asked for protection.

But one day, some of the enlightened ones discovered a great mystery and said that an unprecedented beast, terrifying all the people, was afraid to death of scarlet color, fire and noise. And from that moment on, everyone decided to scare the beast with red clothes and noisy salutes on New Year’s Eve. It was from there that the custom of using holiday fireworks came to us and dress in bright outfits.

If you want to arrange a traditional meeting of the Chinese New Year, you will certainly need to dress in clothes that exclude dark colors. The best option is to celebrate the holiday in something red, since this year will be held under the auspices of the Fiery Monkey.

At the festive table must be present two red candles, the symbol of the year — the Monkey — and tangerines, which personify monetary prosperity. After all, it is no wonder that in Chinese the name of these fruits is consonant with the word «gold».

Well, what a holiday without salutes, Bengal lights and firecrackers. These attributes must be in your program. They help scare away all evil spirits, detractors and envious.

They are also able to save and increase your energy.
