Assumption post: nutrition calendar by day

In order for the period of the Assumption fasting to become a time of spiritual purification, it is very important to follow all the established rules. One of the most important — a lean diet, because abstinence from physical excesses not only heals the body, but also strengthens the spirit.

The Assumption post has a fixed length: it begins every year on August 14 and ends on the 27th, on the eve of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, or, if the holiday is celebrated on Wednesday or Friday, August 28. Assumption is not included in the number of fast days, as falls on Monday.

The August Post was established as compensation for the reduction of the Petrov post. Initially, the last captured and July, but few people could withstand such a long period of austerity, and therefore it was decided to divide the post into two parts. After many years, the second part of Petrova’s post was transformed into an independent post, which was named after the final great Orthodox celebration.

Food calendar on the Assumption post

Eggs, meat and dairy products, as well as any dishes where there is at least one of these ingredients are prohibited on all the days of the Assumption of Lent. Three days a week, the malnutrition is laid, that is, the church charter prohibits food that has undergone heat treatment. For great church celebrations are allowed fish dishes and a minimum amount of wine.

August 18 and 25, Friday: Do not heat treat food. You can eat bread, vegetables, fruits, homemade preparations. Refilling salads with vegetable oil is strictly prohibited.

August 19, Saturday: the great feast of the Transfiguration. Fish dishes and some red or white wine are allowed. On this date, Apple Spas is celebrated, so you can cook various dishes with the addition of these fruits: bake apples with honey, make apple pie from lean dough, cook apple mousse or, mix with other fruits, make a fruit salad.

August 26, Saturday: allowed to fry in vegetable oil, add it to boiled dishes and salads.

August 20 and August 27, Sunday: food cooked in vegetable oil is allowed. It can also be used as a salad dressing.

August 28, the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is not a fast day. On this date, you need to break the fast, that is, smoothly switch to a normal diet, gradually introducing meat and dairy foods into the diet.

Relief of fasting is allowed to anyone who, due to various circumstances, cannot comply with all restrictions: children, the elderly, pregnant women, people experiencing health problems. We should not also forget that fasting is not a diet, but a period of spiritual work. Daily prayers, helping others, good deeds — all this is much more important than maintaining a fasting menu.
