Advent is one of the most important in Orthodoxy, because it precedes the brightest of the Twelve Festivals — the Nativity of Christ. This multi-day post is very strict.
The severity of the post due to the fact that Christmas was preceded by numerous difficulties. The Virgin Mary struggled with them in order to present the Savior to the world. She prayed and experienced as befits any mother.
This post is also set so that you and I can be cleansed before the meeting of the great holiday.
The meaning of Advent
Previously, it lasted seven days, now — much longer. The fast begins annually on November 28 and ends on January 6. year will not be an exception. This will be the last post and the first in the following.
Try to partake in these days in order to adequately meet the bright holiday of Christmas. Every person is obliged to reject negative emotions, bad habits and any negative during this period of time. This is a time of love for mothers, because the Virgin Mary was a key figure in the Christmas story.
So, one of the main tasks of any post is the purification of the spirit. This happens not only spiritual, but also physical. Abstinence from animal food is not just a rule that must be observed from November 28 to January 6.
You can eat different foods on different days.
November 29, January 1, 6, 8, 13, 16, 20, 22, 27, 29, as well as January 3 and 5 — days of dry up. This means that it is allowed to eat cold, vegetable food without adding oil.
November 28, 30, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 December — fish days. On this day, you can eat hot vegetable food cooked with butter.
December 4th — the feast of the Entry of the Virgin into the Temple. Allowed moderate consumption of red wine.

December 19th — a day identical to the previous rules, but with the possibility of adding oil to food.
December 21, 26, 28 — vegetable food with oil.
January 6 — Christmas Eve. You can eat it only if it is sochy. Talking is allowed with the appearance of the first star in the sky.
Remember that if you are sick, you do not have to follow a lean diet. If the post can harm your health, then you have every right not to comply with these rules. These days it is important to be transformed spiritually, so do not put the diet in the first place.
Read prayers every day, communicate with God and do not be afraid to ask him for something for yourself and your loved ones. Live by the rules of the highest, not the lowest. A good mood will come by itself. Forget about fun and idle lifestyle.
