Instructions for practicing the Aum mantra: designation and result
What is the sacred syllable Aum, where did it come from? Mantra Aum is considered mainstream in Vedic culture. This syllable begins and ends the sacred texts.
Consider the history of the origin of Aum, the rules of pronunciation and the meaning of the combination of sacred sounds.
What do mantras mean?
To realize the meaning and meaning of mantras, you need to understand where they came from. Most of the sacred texts for singing are written in Sanskrit, however, some syllables and combinations of sounds cannot be translated — enlightened yogas heard them in meditation.
These sounds have a special nature of origin — cosmic.
As Pythagoras heard the music of the spheres, so the enlightened people heard special cosmic sounds. This is how the Aum mantra appeared — a sound expression of the vibration of the universe.
It is believed that the mantra Aum (Ohm) contains all the Vedic mantras in encrypted form.
Can mantras be said to prayer? Unlike prayer, the mantra affects not only the spirit and soul of man, but also the physical body. The practice of mantras has a powerful, complex effect on the human being, encompassing all its components.
This explains the healing effect on those who practice the mantra and on those who listen to them.
Cosmic sound aum
Mantra Aum consists of several vowels and one consonant sound: a, o, y, m. We feel the fusion of vowels “a, o, y” as one sound “o”. Therefore, the mantra Aum is pronounced and written as «Om.» The sacral meaning of the mantra is the union of the three deities in one whole — Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva.
The fusion of the divine triad into one essence is reflected in the fusion of the sounds of the sacred mantra.
The sound «om» is the original sacred sound that appeared in the universe with the birth of Brahman. The trinity of the sacred syllable symbolizes the whole of the three components of life — creation, formation and destruction.
The earthly expression of the mantra is the unity of the three human aspirations — knowledge, desire, action.
The practice of mantra harmonizes the threefold essence of man — body, soul and spirit. The vibrations of the sacred sound harmonize the subtle structures of the person and connect them with the physical body.
The consonance of vibrations raises the physical body and leads to fine-grained levels, cleansing and spiritualizing. Repeatedly pronouncing the Om mantra frees the blocked energy channels, restores the aura and destroys the karmic blocks.
Mantra Aum — practice
How to pronounce the sacred sound Aum, how many times and at what time of day? These questions worry newcomers, but for practicing yoga, meditating on the symbol and sound Om is an inalienable meaning of existence every day. As much as a person is accustomed to inhale the air, so familiar is yoga to pronounce the syllable om.
At the beginning of the practice you need to listen to the mantra Aum in the recording. Then repeat.
Rules for the practice of mantra:
- Stay alone in the room and focus on your inner feelings. Do not worry about the anxieties and worries of the day; clean your mind from everyday problems.
- Sit in a comfortable position — the half lotus pose is considered ideal (then you can sit in the lotus position).
- Free the body from muscle tension, and the mind from the internal dialogue (talking to yourself).
- Close your eyes and focus on the silence within you, feel yourself as a part of outer space.
- Start singing sounds, making between them equal intervals. At the same time, the sounds should be sung in one breath (on the exhale), without interrupting to a new breath.
- Imagine that you are in outer space, and the stars are twinkling around you. You are slowly floating in the void, and only the vibration of the sacred sound breaks the silence of the universe.
- Finger rosary beads, counting the number of pronounced syllables.
- When you finish singing the circle of mantra (108 times), slowly open your eyes and return with consciousness to the ground in your room.
Before practicing any mantra, yoga is advised to take three deep breaths. This simple exercise helps to relax and tune in to the meditative mood. Practice only in a ventilated room.
Well helps to focus on the spiritual goal of incense smoking — burn a fragrance aroma with a smell of sandalwood. Sandalwood is considered a sacred tree in India, its fragrance helps to tune in to spiritual practices.
When practicing Aum, get the sound inside your body. First, vibrations occur in the head and chest area (sound “a”), then they must descend to the solar plexus (sound “o”) and lower abdomen (sound “y”), then rise up to the third eye (sound “m” ).
Ideally, the sound should be felt by the entire chakra pillar of a person — from the top of the head (the sound “m” vibrates) to the tailbone (the sound “y” vibrates), and between them the sounds “a” and “o” vibrate. It may not work out right away, so start practicing with a small amount of sound pronouncement — 3, 6, 9 or 12 times (always a multiple of three).
After you learn how to sing the mantra out loud, go on to the next stage of the practice — speaking in a low voice or in a whisper. This practice is more difficult than the first one, because loud reproduction of sounds stops the randomness of thoughts and does not interfere with concentration.
As soon as the sound becomes quiet, thoughts will begin to attack the practitioner. Therefore, the main problem of spiritual practices is to stop the run of thoughts — internal dialogue.
The next stage of the practice will be the mental pronunciation of the mantra Aum. It is even more difficult than the vibration of sounds in a whisper. However, it is worth learning.
When the mental reproduction of the mantra does not open the mouth — the sound is pronounced in the mind. You should start the practice with a small number of utterances — 3, 6, 9, 12.
Then increase the score using rosary beads.
How to determine the correct rhythm of pronunciations? Focus on the sound of your heart and sing in rhythm with it. After mastering the basics of vibrating sound, meditate on the graphic symbol Aum:
Many beginners are interested in — what does the practice of Aum mantra give a person? First of all, the consciousness is tuned to cosmic vibrations and merges with the subconscious. After this, the perception of the world and all the processes occurring in it changes — there is an expansion of consciousness.
A person comes in contact with higher consciousness and experiences spiritual ecstasy. It is impossible to explain this state in words — you need to feel it.
After the expansion of consciousness, enlightenment comes — an inner comprehension of the unity of the universe, the harmony of all processes in it and participation in the universe. The practitioner begins to understand himself, his essence and true value.
The spirit of man is freed from the fetters of the material and ascends into the spiritual realms, drawing on spiritual food. After this, a state of exaggeration and lightness may arise.
At the psychological level, a person receives a calming of the soul and a new look at past everyday problems. Life situations lose their former meaning, and troubles — the sharpness of perception.
As a result, the person becomes balanced and calm. Balance of mind inevitably leads to the healing of the physical body.
So, the practice of mantra Aum brings not only mental, but also physical health.
Purification and opening of energy channels also leads to the improvement of the body: a person gets less tired, he needs less food and time to sleep (recovery of energy expended). Well-coordinated work of energy channels and meridians provides a full-fledged energy exchange with the cosmos, therefore the feeling of tiredness and weakness towards evening disappears.
