Psalm 69 of King David: reading rules, text in Russian

Psalms and prayers are a way for me to turn to God for praise, expressing gratitude and asking for help. I regularly read them as it should be, in Church Slavonic.

However, there are no prohibitions on reading psalms in the familiar Russian language. Today I will tell you how to read Psalm 69 correctly, and describe the story of its appearance.

All psalms and prayer requests, and there are over 80, are collected in one holy book — the Psalter. The author of most of them is King David. He is not only a biblical hero, but a very real historical character.

What modern Jerusalem is today is the merit of King David. In ancient times, he conquered the tiny fortress, located at the base of Mount Zion and from thereafter the capital of Israel. Now this city is considered a city of three religions.

After the proclamation of Jerusalem as the capital, he went down in history as a holy city with spiritual power, recognized by all tourists.

King David, as we know, is not the only author of the psalms in the Psalter. However, it was he who introduced this peculiar singing-reading of the psalms.

All subsequent church works are based on the syllable of King David.

Reading the life story of King David, it may seem strange to a modern person. For example, cases when he not only saves the lives of his enemies and pursuers, but then mourns their death.

However, David also can not be called completely sinless. The main example is the case of the warrior Uriah and his wife. The king took his wife from Uriah, while the warrior sent him to certain death.

Such a disgusting act is also reflected in the Bible, where the entire depth of its fall is described.

Despair came to David much later, when the prophet Nathan pointed out to him. Hearing these words, David did not become angry, he was horrified by his deed and repented. And his repentance was so comprehensive that it helped him rise from the abyss of his fall.

Hence, people who read psalms must understand that in order to earn the forgiveness and help of the Lord, repentance must be as great as a perfect sin.

However, not all psalms are repentance. Among them are those who are imbued with joy and glee.

The reader as if receives those positive emotions that the author himself experienced at the time of their writing.

What language to read

Everyone who has listened at least once to the Psalms in Church Slavonic, admire this reading and recognize that it is this sound that gives some sort of unearthly pleasure.

And this even despite the fact that the meaning is not fully understood. This is not surprising: the ear of an inexperienced person with such chants is able to recognize only individual words or phrases.

Thus, the general meaning of the sacred text, which begins to appear only with the constant practice of reading, is lost.

However, with regular readings, a person begins to memorize some phrases and even parts of psalms. This helps to gradually study the Psalter, and at the right moment the necessary wise words can come to mind.

Deeply religious people, when reading or drying psalms, have in front of them clear images of all the heroes. It is believed that the Psalter translated into Russian has many inaccuracies that deter readers.

Thus, making a conclusion, we can say that the Slavic text is harmonious, but not everyone understands, and the Russian is clear to everyone, but does not have the necessary sound.

Ways to read

How to read:

  1. Reading the daily range. Everyone knows that the psalms are the basis of the daily cycle of worship. In each period of the day, one must read one’s specific psalms or excerpts.
  2. Reading kafizm. The Psalter contains 20 sections, each of which is called Kathisma. Every day of the week has its own fixed, only these kathismas read, so the whole hymnal is read in a week.
  3. The study of the psalms one by one. Many people thoroughly approach the study of psalms — they study their history, interpretation, prayers that precede them and end them. You can memorize individual passages by heart — this way you can get great topics for your prayers.
  4. Knowing the Scriptures by Experience is the most effective way to read. It is not a secret, people who have no special theological education, but who live righteously, are able to interpret psalms perfectly.

However, despite the above, do not forget: no home reading alone will be able to replace real worship in the temple. Indeed, in this case, all the read psalms and prayers appear and are felt as part of the entire Christian Church.

Every believer will confirm that the unreal atmosphere that is present at divine services in churches is incomparable to anything else.

Types of Psalms

The classification of psalms is necessary for ease of use. There are the following types of them:

  1. Crying (moaning) is the largest group in the Psalter. There are over 60 such psalms. With their help, a person has the opportunity to express his sufferings, internal struggles or disappointments to the Lord. In turn, the crying can be individual, corporate (the same, but on behalf of several people). Psalms — crying helps to complement their own experiences.
  2. Thanksgiving They are used to express their joy to God, when a person has a good reason to express it. This expresses gratitude to the Almighty for protection, beneficence and mercy.
  3. Praises — there are no references to human suffering or joys. The meaning of such psalms is only praise of God.
  4. Psalms about the history of salvation — there are only five of them. Here we are talking about how God created the people of Israel as such.
  5. Psalms of celebration and reassurance. This includes several subgroups at once.
  6. Psalms of wisdom — all the advantages of wisdom as such and wise life.
  7. Songs of trust — their essence is that God deserves the highest trust from people, even in the most difficult moments of life. The Lord should listen to such songs, this is evidence that people entrust their lives to him.

Psalm 69: History

The cunning son of David Absalom killed his own brother Amnon for abusing Tamar’s sister. After that, he hid from the king for two years, during which he was constantly looking for ways to reunite with his father.

David forgave his son, but he began to intrigue behind his back, setting up the people closest to him against the king. Moreover, the ungrateful succeeded in this heinous business so much that he forced David to take flight.

The king left Jerusalem with the most loyal people. It was at this moment in the life of King David that the 69th song was written. Even a novice can make out a cry for help addressed to God, a cry aimed at getting an answer to a tormenting question.

Reading Psalm 69, it becomes clear that David’s faith in God did not hesitate at all; he also hopes in Him and asks for help.

Interpretation

Psalm 69 is an appeal to the Lord for help in the fight against the enemy, it is integral to the divine service in the church. This psalm almost duplicates the 39th in the writing of David. The essence of the 69th is as follows:

  1. Verse 1: According to some sources, David wrote this psalm after the victory over Absalom in order to constantly remember this sin and constantly pray for his redemption. For it really was a sin that led to tragedy in the family.
  2. Verses 2-3 — here comes the mention of the different sides of the Most High. In addition, the king, exhausted from the machinations of his enemies, prays to God to hurry with help. Here is a description of his revenge.
  3. Verses 4-5 are a praise of God, a blessing for helping in an almost hopeless situation. The emphasis is on the fact that he is a king, but still a mere mortal, whose only salvation is the hope of the only possible power — God.
