Prayers on the day of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord on September 27
The Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord is a great feast, personifying all the greatness of the symbol of faith in Christ. The event is celebrated from year to year on the same day — September 27th.
This Christian holiday is not dedicated to Jesus Christ or the Mother of God. — the very faith and power of prayer. Numerous folk signs of the Exaltation suggest that people tried to explain this holiday also from the point of view of nature, because it is inseparably connected with God. These signs will be relevant for September 27 this year.
Exaltation is the great feast, that is, one of the twelve most important events of the Christian church calendar for the whole year. This day has long united believers, giving them strength and strengthening the faith of each of them.
At the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, they recall a special event that occurred at the beginning of the fourth century in Palestine on the very spot where Jesus Christ was crucified. The Empress and Bishop Macarius from Jerusalem came to the place of execution and unearthed three crosses. One of them was the very cross on which our Savior died.
They recognized him because the blind woman was healed by touching him. It is said that the life-giving cross was named in honor of the miraculous resurrection of a dead man who was carried near the excavation site.
Later, a few years later, it was decided to establish a holiday in honor of the Cross of the Lord. From that moment on, the whole Christian world celebrates the Exaltation, uniting in faith.
Prayers on the day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
The main Christian prayer “Our Father” as well as “I Believe” or special holiday prayers can be read on the Elevation:
- The Cross of the Lord, the guardian of the soul and savior of our body, exorcating, demons, enemies, repealing evil, annihilating and blessing us, and giving life and strength to the Holy Spirit and the prayers of the Most Pure Mother of God. Amen.
- May God save your people and bless your wealth, grant us victory and strength to resist all evil. Let your mercy and the Cross of Your Honor illuminate our lives.
These prayers will need to be read at home if you cannot get to the temple on September 27 and kiss the Cross of the Lord. If you have time, do not miss the Service on such a day, because it will be especially solemn.
Pray before bedtime, kiss the pectoral cross and calmly go to sleep. Try to remember what Jesus Christ died for. His sacrifice was not in vain.
She helped us overcome death and receive eternal life, as well as the forgiveness of sins.
Traditions of Exaltation September 27
On this day, it is customary to give your children gold or silver crosses — this is a kind of holiday symbolism. It is said that a cross bought in the Church of the Exaltation, will protect you from all evil, even when it is not with you.
On the erection, it is customary to go to church for festive liturgy, and also to give alms to the poor and needy. Try to donate, for example, things that you don’t wear. But just do it from the heart, do not give something that is not suitable for another.
On the feast of the Exaltation, it is usually tolerated by those with whom God himself demands peace — with relatives. If an insurmountable wall lies between you and one of your close people, sincerity will help to destroy it. Having reconciled on such a day, you will find agreement in your heart.
On this important day, all believers are as if becoming one. This is the main holiday of unification, creation and faith for any Orthodox person. Ever since the days of ancient Russia, people began to realize that the Exaltation is a day when miracles are real.
This holiday reminds us that faith is able to overcome evil, eradicate sins and come closer to the Creator, because we are all part of his plan.
