Great Monday April 2: prayers for the beginning of Holy Week
For any Christian, Passion Week is an important period. On Great Monday, the Orthodox world remembers the events that took place with Jesus Christ during the last week before the crucifixion.
On Great Monday, prayer words gain special strength. Everyone can say thanks or requests to the Higher Forces, repent of unseemly deeds. Any word spoken sincerely will surely find a response, therefore prayers are often accompanied by requests for changes in life.
On this day, any work that distracts people from reading prayers and cleansing the soul from the negative is prohibited. In the churches during the service, the story of the barren fig tree is recalled. On the day of the entrance to Jerusalem, Jesus Christ retired to the desert to offer prayers, and on the way back he felt hunger.
A fig tree stood in his way, but there was not a single fruit on the tree. Jesus was angry and ordered the tree to dry. This event indicates not only the power of the word of God.
It has a lesson for each believer. Like a tree, decorated only with leaves, but giving no benefit in the form of fruits, some people do not commit specious deeds. Those who prefer to live the life bestowed upon him aimlessly should fear the wrath of the Lord, who rightly evaluates everyone.
Orthodox believers pray on Great Monday, asking for help in revealing their talents and using them for good deeds and actions.
Prayers at the beginning of the Holy Week
A prayer is read in the morning, at lunch and before going to bed:
«The Lord Almighty, who gives life! Do not leave your servant without grace. Bless on righteous acts and help fight the evil that daily tests me for strength.
This prayer is designed to remind every believer the suffering that the Lord passed for everyone living on earth, sacrificing himself for the salvation of all mankind from sin:
“My God, Thy way is thorny and terrible, but you were not afraid of death, you presented yourself before your Father and people with a smile on your lips. By your sufferings you purify the souls of sinners, your tears are washed white until white. Lord Jesus, save and save, save from anger and envy, save our lives, grant us the Kingdom of Heaven after the end of the road.
With this prayer on Great Monday the meal begins:
“I thank You, Lord, for the food given. Send me your blessing so do not leave without patronage neither in joy, nor in sorrow. Heal my soul, strengthen your health through your daily bread, obtained through righteous labor.
