Food supplement E209, which is also called Para-hydroxybenzoic acid heptyl ester, is a preservative. Externally, this substance looks like a crystalline white powder or small sized, colorless crystals. The smell is either very subtle or absent. The taste of para-hydroxybenzoic acid heptyl ester has a slightly pungent.
This additive is considered dangerous and in most countries of the world it is prohibited. For example, in the Russian Federation, the preservative E209 was excluded from the list of permitted in 2008. And in the United States of America, for example, it is allowed to produce food.
In addition to the food industry, a preservative has been applied in the production of certain types of products in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
The use of preservative in food production
In America, para-hydroxybenzoic acid heptyl ester is used in the brewing process. This substance is added after the final filtration of the foamy beverage. Serves as E209 preservative for the biological stabilization of beer, that is, it reduces the resistance of the beverage to cooling, and also reduces the stability of the foam.
In addition to the production of beer, it is permissible to add the E209 preservative also to such food products:

- casings for meat products;
- fat emulsions.
The effect of the food additive E209 on the human body cannot be called useful. It can cause eye irritation and contact dermatitis. Doctors say that in some cases, para-hydroxybenzoic acid heptyl ester can cause asthma and even anaphylactic shock. Thus, the harm of additives is obvious.
Once in the body Para-hydroxybenzoic acid heptyl ester is not absorbed, but is derived from it with urine in its original form or somewhat saponified.
