What is shamanism: shamans and shamanism in the world
Shamanism — what is it in terms of religion?
Before the advent of numerous religions, shamanism had a special distribution, including a huge number of rites and rules. There are still tribes and even peoples ruled by shamans.
It is believed that these are selected people who have the ability to communicate with the Higher forces.
What is shamanism?
An early form of religion based on a person’s communication with spirits in a state of trance is called shamanism. He has a close relationship with magic, animism, fetishism and totemism.
According to the research, shamanic practices were known during the Neolithic and Bronze Age.
There are various national and religious forms of shamanism, for example, Korean, Yakut, Altai and so on.
Shamanism is a polytheistic religion, where different phenomena of nature are usually considered as deities, and all surrounding objects endowed with a soul.
The shamans say that only the conscious belonging of a person to the Universe gives a chance to get rid of fear and a sense of injustice.
They have the ability to travel to other worlds and communicate with different spirits, gaining power from supernatural sources.
The shaman is considered to be the chosen one of the spirits, and he can receive his gift through “shamanic disease” — a condition that looks like a lethargic dream.
Of great importance is the meeting with the guardian spirit, who is a protector from the negative. The state, when the shaman is in a trance, is called a rite, and it is accompanied by drum beats, dances and spells.
A modern shaman performs several functions: a priest, a soothsayer, a medicine man, an adviser, and others.
Shamanism as a religion
Although individual elements of shamanism can be found in almost all religions, it is impossible to call it a separate religious trend. It includes a combination of ecstatic and therapeutic techniques that allow you to interact with parallel worlds.
Religion, shamanism and magical trends are different concepts that, one way or another, are intertwined with each other.
Signs of shamanism
As already mentioned, a person receives magical powers if the spirits decide to reward him. There is a version that shamanism and shamanism can be inherited.
There are some signs by which one can determine eligibility.
- There may be unusual marks on the body, such as birthmarks, or physical defects are taken into account, as in Siberia an extra finger on your hands or toes is a sign of strength.
- It is necessary to focus on personality traits, so potential shamans love solitude in nature. Such people are closed.
- A person has supernatural forces that manifest themselves in visions of the future, in prophetic dreams, the ability to see the souls of the dead, and so on.
- The desire to study shamanism, and it should be strong and not have any validity. While doing special exercises, aspirations only increase.
Shamanism and Orthodoxy
Many people are interested in how the church relates to different areas that are related to magic.
According to the clergy, shamanism and Christianity are two incompatible things, because everything that makes a person believe in spirits, demons and other supernatural beings is forbidden and is considered a manifestation of devilry. All magical directions are an obstacle for man to attain oneness with the Lord.
Shamanism in the modern world
Recently, the magic of shamans has become interested in a large number of people who are striving for spiritual growth and want to get strength for healing.
The times when people sought to find the elect passed, and in the modern world they themselves are trying to learn shamanistic rites while undergoing training and initiation.
If before knowledge was transmitted by word of mouth, then thanks to the written language a lot of information is available to the average person.
Shamanism is magic that requires a lot of training, and you can start by reading special literature. Popular is the book of M. Harner, The Way of the Shaman. The knowledge gained, it is necessary to constantly apply in practice, since shamanism can be comprehended only through experience.
It is also recommended to spend a lot of time on nature, studying its possibilities and learning to hear its advice.
Shamanism — interesting facts
In different parts of the world, shamanism has its own characteristics, which depend on geographic location, color and other features.
- In Australia, researchers have discovered only the beginnings of shamanism, and their representatives called birraarca.
- Interesting facts: the shamans of South America were called machi, and they cured people of diseases caused by the action of evil spirits. During the ritual, they certainly took some object from the body of the patient.
- In Bolivia, shamans were called bar and they associated with spirits, made predictions and had witchcraft abilities.
- In Korea, only women practiced shamanism and they were called Mu-Dan. It is important to note that the strength and knowledge were transmitted only by inheritance. In addition to the basic abilities of the shamans, they were able to make amulets, guess and conjure.
Shamanism. History, Essence, Main Ideas, Principles and Practice
Let’s talk about most likely the most ancient religion of the world — Shamanism, consider its main ideas, principles, philosophy and essence. Even today, shamanism is quite widespread throughout the world: Asia, Africa, America, Europe, and of course the peoples of the entire far north.
Moreover, it can be assumed that Shamanism existed in almost all the existing nations of the world.
Indeed, in theory, shamans can answer many questions, entering a trance state and communicating with the spirits of nature, or perhaps they could simply read information from the surrounding space.
And as you know, people really want to know their future, destiny or to communicate with loved ones who have already left this world.
The history of Shamanism
Historians attribute the emergence of shamanism to the Stone Age, when the first man was able to make fire and he was interested in the forces of nature, because he was directly dependent on it.
I must say that then people were more open to nature and to communicate with her, and Shamanism served as a method of merging with nature, not its subordination, as modern people are trying to do now.
Instead of living in harmony with nature, modern man drains all resources and pollutes the environment as much as possible.
Brief Essence of Shamanism
The word «shaman«Translates as» sorcerer «and of course this is a later name, it is better to designate it as»cognition«. That is, knowledge of the environment and hidden human capabilities.
Just the essence of shamanism is the knowledge of the world order, communication and knowledge.
Usually, the essence of shamanism is to ensure that by transforming into something else, dressing in animal skins, performing certain dances and sounds, a person can enter a different state of mind, which in the modern world is called altered consciousness or trance.
Theoretically, in this state, the shaman can attend various dimensions, both spirits and gods. Also in this state, it is possible to receive answers to questions that are expected of him by the people of his community or a person who wishes to receive a cure from his illness.
And usually, from generation to generation and from mouth to mouth, certain techniques and techniques of entering into an altered state were transmitted. By the way, photos can be enlarged, and photos of real shamans of the far north who came from Transbaikalia, one of the most mystical and «shaman» places of the planet.
Basic ideas of Shamanism
Since people from the very Stone Age live in nature, of course, this existence must be harmonious. And in order to live in harmony with nature, people began to deify the forces of nature as a matter of course.
To endow all its elements, such as water, fire, wind, stone, wood, river, and others, with some essence or spirituality, and also often to attribute them human qualities.
Thus arose the spirits of water, earth, stones, and others. Of course, fear was present before the power of nature and various spirits.
In this regard, the shaman becomes a mediator between the spirits of nature or the spirits of deceased ancestors, and the man himself.
Therefore, the main benefit and idea of the emergence of shamanism is that, entering a special state, the shaman gets answers to many questions, for example, how to make the weather favorable for the harvest, he can talk to your dead spirits, predict fate or say how to cure some kind of disease.
Sometimes, for this prediction and communication with spirits, some special ritual or sacrifice is required to get answers.
Principles of Shamanism
Sometimes, shamans become pedigree and knowledge is passed on from generation to generation. Yet one of the principles of shamanism is considered, a person truly becomes a shaman when he is able to enter an altered state and communicate as with perfume terrain, and with the spirits of ancestors and even other dimensions.
What is a real shaman?
A real shaman can also travel through such dimensions, gaining transcendental experience. Therefore, the principle of shamanism in the individual experience obtained by a particular person.
Each shaman has his own ritual object (amulet or object of power) and his own experience for entering into a trance or altered state.
It is believed that the shaman can also help the dead soul to find the right path to his god, so that the spirits and God himself would accept the dead.
Why and why do we need shaman rituals
That is to say, there is a spirit or some kind of god, and each has its own dimension of existence, which is invisible to the human eye. And in order to enter the state of God or this spirit, imitation or transformation into some kind of image is needed.
This is where various things transforming from person to shaman come to the rescue: these are certain outfits, dances, rituals and sounds.
Thus, the shaman using these things and tuning into the dimension of the spirit communicates with him. In addition, the spirit can provide guidance on travel in the dimension of the spirit or even beyond.
As for, for example, a request from a community of people for its prosperity and well-being, it is believed that the shaman can convey a request or an offering to the heavenly gods or spirits.
Thus, in the early centuries, the shaman performed an important function of an intermediary between man and the forces of nature and the invisible world of spirits unknown to the ordinary man, and this is the main purpose and purpose of shamanistic rituals.
The practice of Shamanism
Usually a shaman, especially a beginner, has a set of clothes for performing a shamanic ritual. It can be a cape made from animal skins or a mask.
Also some ritual accessories in the form of musical instruments are used, for example, a tambourine or a beater. What is interesting sometimes before the ritual the shaman tries to perform it before going to bed, laying some information.
Why do shamans dress up in birds?
Thus, for example, in Mongolia, shamans communicate with the spirits of nature. The bird is a symbol of penetration into other worlds and the clothes of shamans corresponding, decorated with feathers of birds.
And during the dance ritual they themselves represent the image of a bird and themselves also in this image.
So get merged with nature or with the spirits of nature. And the more susceptible the shaman is, the deeper he penetrates into other dimensions or begins to communicate with some spirits of nature or other dimensions.
In Europe and the rest of the world, this is called mediumship, and a person who can communicate with spirits as a medium, although this is not always the same, is rather close.
Shaman technique to get answers to questions
Shaman techniques are often quite simple, for example, you can lie or sit to get answers to your questions, here the main thing is to relax your body.
Take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. Imagine how on the breath in you penetrate the golden spirals of energy and you are filled with golden light.
You are completely relaxed.
Your brain contains a place called the answer room, where answers to questions are found (modern psychology calls it the subconscious). You just need to find a path to this room. This place can be the attic of your home, and the forest path and the distant sea shore.
You need to find a place that you like and in this place you must “see” the door.
ActionTeaser.ru — teaser ads Feel a strong desire to be in front of the door and see yourself standing in front of that door. Now fix in your memory what this door looks like, its color and what the door handle looks like, and then enter this door.
Entering the room, you see upholstered furniture, a sofa, an armchair, as well as beautiful paintings by famous artists, esoteric books and of course flowers.
On the table you see a samovar, cups for tea. Also in the room there are glass doors to access the beautiful garden.
Feel at home in this room, here you can also see things that you like.
Sit comfortably in the room and think about what you would like to know. Consider each item in this room, stopping at each of them.
Then clearly formulate the question to which you want to get an answer and ask that the answer to this question be given to you within the next three days.
After that, forget about the question and just sit in an easy chair, pour yourself tea and drink at your pleasure. You must be sure to get answers to your questions.
This is the practice of internal self-government and self-knowledge. Further, having achieved perfection in this technique, you can, even just by thinking about the room of answers, receive answers to any of your questions, because even modern scientists claim that all information is recorded in a person’s subconscious.
Otherwise, how can one explain that a person in a hypnotist’s office can even remember himself in childhood, and possibly his past lives, which is indicated by a separate truth informal science regressive therapy, about which we have already written in detail on our portal.
Shamanism, of course, is an important part of the cultural and religious heritage of the earth. If each person became a shaman, then, probably, the earth would turn into a mystical place, a place of knowledge, where everyone can read their subconscious and information accumulated by propants, stones, water, etc.
And it is not so important even the frequent use of various intoxicants by some novice shamans, since in the end almost all of them come to the conclusion that such a connection is possible without all this, and enter into the abilities of any person. However, civilization went its own way, and it is what it is.
Yet let each of us find his own path, a path that will help create harmony on the planet and general welfare.
Well, we, in turn, will continue to write about the religious directions of the planet and their influence on the average person on the portal of Education and Self-development.
For example, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the Eastern religion of Shinto and its philosophy, since it also honors the various forces of nature and the spirits of long-gone ancestors.
Interesting facts about shamans
Being in a state of complete detachment, the shaman, striking a tambourine, performs his unusual dance. This action is both fascinating and frightening at the same time.
After all, he, performing the necessary rites and rituals, communicates with spirits, both good and evil. But what will this “magical collaboration” bring to people?
Everybody knows about shamans. In their power, capable of influencing the lives of people, many believe.
But is it true or fiction?
Shamans — people practicing shamanism. In ancient times, it was common in almost all corners of the Earth, but those that emerged after religion supplanted it, and now shamanism is “alive” only in some small nations.
Now there are different national types of shamanism — Yakut, Altai, Korean and others.
Interesting fact. In Korea, women could be shamans, and knowledge was inherited.
Shamanism considers the whole world around us, including natural phenomena, as something animated, having a soul.
And shamans are chosen people who can move to other worlds in a state of trance and “engage in dialogue” with the most diverse higher powers. Each shaman has his own spirit-patron who protects him from the harmful effects.
There is such a legend. Once, the gods realized that humanity needed help and decided that the shaman, whom the gods themselves would appoint, would be the guides between them and the people.
They appointed an eagle as a shaman, but the man did not understand the bird and did not heed its advice.
Then the shaman-eagle flew to the gods and asked to make a man a shaman. The gods told him to fly to people and transfer their skills to whomever he wanted.
The eagle did just that. He really liked the young woman with whom he, having assumed a human form, entered into a relationship.
In due course she gave birth to a boy, who became the ancestor of all shamans.
For small nations, a shaman is a person who, according to residents, knows and can practically everything: he can heal, give advice, predict the future, mediate between spirits and people, make sacrifices, descend into hell, fight demons, control the weather, to move into other people and liven up the dead.
The election of the shaman always takes place against the background of the so-called «shamanic disease.» When the Spirits elected a certain person as a shaman, he fell ill with a very strong nervous breakdown.
If he refused to be a shaman, he either died or went crazy. And if a person decides to become elected, the disease was removed by itself after initiation into shamans.
Ordinary people see the suffering of the elect during the shamanic disease, but what does he feel at this time? The newly-born shaman allegedly travels to different worlds, finds out the way to the spirits and souls of the dead, and also communicates with them.
After that, he moves to a higher level of knowledge of life.
A ritual with singing, dancing and striking a tambourine, during which the shaman plunges into a trance and meets with higher powers, is called kamlanie.
The shaman rite for the uninitiated may seem a theatrical costumed performance. The shaman, dressed in special clothes, uttering spells, began to beat the tambourine and dance a very expressive dance.
It is believed that at this time his soul leaves the body, rises to the sky or descends into the earth.
Tribesmen of the shaman, watching the rite, with reverent horror watching the shaman then argue with some supernatural forces, then fight with them and drive away.
A kamlaniye can last for several days, after which the shaman leaves the trance.
It is clear that such a “marathon” can only be sustained by a physically strong person, especially when you consider that the dress of a shaman with ritual decorations and a tambourine weighs more than twenty kilograms.
Shamans, like healers, can heal people. It is believed that they accumulate their knowledge of medicinal plants, as well as they are helped by the spirits-patrons.
Shamans are divided into white and black. White shamans, as it is easy to guess, communicate with good spirits, while blacks serve the forces of evil.
But there is not always such a division, for example, among Buryats a shaman can serve both good and evil spirits. A kind of servant of two masters.
White shamans always wore white clothes (orgy), and black shamans had a dark blue orgoy.
The orgy is a robe made of expensive fabric, similar to a fur coat, decorated with ritual metal figures of animals.
Interesting facts: 1. Modern life brings innovations to shamanism. If earlier shamans wore an orgy while performing a rite, now they “dress up” very rarely, and they usually wear a traditional org on them if they die.
2. In Altai, in Yakutia and Tuva, schools of shamans operate.
Shaman’s Air Grave (arangas)
Shamans, no matter how powerful they are, are still mortal people who die sooner or later. But they are not always buried the way other people do.
For example, in Yakutia there are three ways of burial of shamans: cremation, burying in the ground and aerial method — the most ancient and unusual. At once, we say that in this way not only shamans were buried, but also other respected people.
Why not everyone? Because air graves (arangasa) are quite troublesome and expensive.
When the shaman died, they found a place in the forest far from the settlements. Moreover, during his life the shaman himself chose him or another spirits had to indicate his spirits.
Two trees were selected there and cut down at the required height — more than one and a half meters.
A scaffold on which a coffin was made, hollowed out of a whole log, was built on them from boards. The body of the shaman, wrapped in felt or the bark of a tree, was put in a coffin and the coffin was covered with a lid, also made from a single trunk.
Then everything was decorated with amulets.
Why so difficult? First, long winters and permafrost make burial in the earth almost impossible.
It is considered undesirable to burn the bodies of shamans in shamanism, and only the air method remains. Therefore, even after the prohibition by the Soviet authorities to arrange arangasy, for shamans, they are still trying to do it.
Of course, arangas are not eternal buildings, over time they collapse, and the shamans have to be buried again and again.
As a rule, coffins and arangas are made of larch, as it is very durable and the structure can stand for about a hundred years, but sometimes this period is significantly reduced, and natural changes are to blame: because of warming, the permafrost in some places begins to melt, ground movement — some areas go down.
Periodically, a new shaman comes from the Arangas to meet with the souls of the dead. He makes a fire, lays out a meal and starts a conversation.
If souls are calm and not angry, they accept alms.
Shamanism professing peoples believe that the dead shaman will continue to take care of them after their death if they follow his grave. Very often, with some kind of problem, people go not only to the living shaman, but also to the dead.
They believe that he hears everything, he sees and understands, so he can help.
And if the shamanic arangas is treated badly, the shaman begins to remind himself — to come in a dream and send some kind of trouble.
Probably, these are only horror stories transmitted by word of mouth, but the Yakuts tell us that in some places people forget about the “hanging” once there, now destroyed arangas, cut down trees and build something. And the shamans begin to revenge, making the life of people in these places absolutely impossible.
Their curse extends to builders, and to new residents — as a rule, people suddenly fall ill and die.
Perhaps this is just the bad energy of the place, because in other religions it is not recommended to build something in the place of old cemeteries.
Renovated Arangas (Shaman’s Airy Grave)
But the professors of shamanism explain it this way — only the body of the shaman dies, and his soul and patron spirit are alive, which means that they are also powerful.
Interesting fact. The most ancient arangas was found in Kolyma, the shaman buried therein is about three and a half thousand years old.
In those lands where only shamans ruled for many centuries, Buddhism is now common, and sometimes these two religions are difficult to get along with each other.
There are cases when shamans and lamas tried to send death to each other. Shamans (black) are used in two ways.
The first one makes a doll (like a voodoo doll), it marks the organs to which it is necessary to send ailment, and then the rite of death is performed.
But the second method is considered more effective by the shamans. They choose an animal, using a spell instill an evil spirit in its body and send it to the one they want to kill.
Having come to a potential victim, an evil spirit moves from the body of the beast to the human body and begins a destructive process in it.
White shamans in their rites also use dolls, but for constructive purposes. They make a doll for a sick person to whom his illness passes.
Then the shaman takes her to the forest and bury her where no one can find her.
Is the shaman’s way a romantic adventure or is it hard work?
Good health to all friends! The idea to write this article was not accidental. … Recently, more and more people began to ask questions of this order: «How to become a shaman?», «Do you recruit students?», «Where and from whom can you learn shamanism?», And so on. d. etc.
In principle, it is understandable, the fashion for shamanism grows with a geometrical progression. It would seem that all this is good, the culture of our Great Ancestors is being revived, people reached out for the outlook of the shamans and the Magi, reached for nature, their origins.
Only here is this two-edged stick.
A couple of dozens of years ago, the fashion for Orthodoxy began to grow, when everyone pulled into the Orthodox Churches, put crosses on themselves, and the crosses tried to choose more beautiful and more expensive.
… Even now it is possible to meet people on the street who have Orthodox attributes, crosses or figurines of Saints made of precious metals on top of their clothes. In fact, people who are not even closely aware of the deep essence of Orthodoxy, literally shout such adornments about what they are de Orthodox.
It would all be funny if it were not so sad.
When a person boasts his alleged faith, goes to the Temples purely for show, but he does not even try to live in accordance with the ethics of Orthodoxy, moreover, he doesn’t even suspect that such exists, then such a person is very dangerous both for himself and for others . What is the danger of such a person — this is a topic for another article, but now we will return to shamanism.
So, I really would not like to see shamanism from the greatest and sacred culture become just a fashion brand, as happened with Orthodoxy, unfortunately, as it is now happening with the pagan faith of our Ancestors of the Slavs.
It is even scary to imagine people walking down the street and shamanic Mirrors (Tolley, Kuzungu, …) made of silver and gold, but knowing about shamanism, only that shamans are mummers and women jumping from a tambourine by the fire in Shamanism mad trance.
But today, and I am saying this from my practice, the overwhelming majority of people have such an idea about shamans.
But let us step back from the lyrics and talk about shamanism and the Way of the shaman. Shamanism — what is it?
It is not possible to answer unequivocally this question.
It is a worldview, a state of mind and heart, it is a sacred science, the art of healing the soul and body of a person, it is a technique of self-knowledge and knowledge of the Universe, the ability to see the invisible, to hear the inaudible, to communicate with other worlds and more, and much is what shamanism.
All this is very attractive today, is not it? After all, more and more people strive for spiritual growth, the search for themselves and their destiny, and it is shamanism on the Path of self-knowledge that is a very good adviser and kind helper, you cannot argue with that.
More and more books are being published about the culture of shamanism, its traditions and adepts, i.e. real shamans, those who have devoted their whole lives to this hardest ministry.
I am very happy for those people who are seriously studying shamanism, they are taking full responsibility for the practices that have now become quite accessible to the average person, happy for those people who are really on the Path to find themselves.
Study, Friends, practice what you really practice safely, because in books, as a rule, something that cannot bring serious harm to your psyche or your soul, with the right approach, of course. But with your desire to become a shaman, with this you be careful, and I say this to you with full responsibility for these words.
The fact is that hardly anywhere someone will tell or write how difficult and dangerous this Path is — the Way of the shaman. If, for example, we talk about the northern or Turkic peoples, then there people are well aware of the seriousness of this issue, and especially no one aspires to the shamans.
But our Russian people, he is very desperate and romantic, therefore, mostly among the Russian guys, there are more and more people who want to become shamans. It certainly would be great if it were not for one BUT.
To live in accordance with the shamanic perception of the world, to follow the shaman’s advice and teachings and to be a shaman are completely different things.
And if the first involves the Path to self-knowledge and Balance, then the second implies a heavy burden, from which there is practically no chance.
When a person called to become a shaman by the spirits receives initiation, then some things happen that are not understandable to the average person. First of all, the neophyte is represented in the world of spirits as a shaman who has taken upon himself the full responsibility of this Path.
And from that moment on, a person becomes no longer completely human! Yes, he gets some advantage over his fellow tribesmen, namely, access to the world of spirits in any place and at any time, but at the same time a person becomes naked before spirits.
That is, now the spirits will look after him both to protect him and to ensure that he does not stray from the Path, not to violate the vows given to them. What does it mean?
And this means that a person, if he was brought up in a culture completely alien to shamanism, enters the hardest struggle with himself.
The world of spirits is not subject to such human feelings as pity and sympathy. Spirits literally begin to scrape from the neophyte all his vicious and greedy attitudes of education, all his fears and prejudices.
This process is very painful and almost endless.
People do not even know how much fears and vices are hidden in them, the average man always successfully disguises himself with excuses and false masks. But from the spirits to hide it there is not any possibility.
Spirits see a person from within, from its very essence, from the essence of which man does not even suspect.
And so, having embarked on the Path of the shaman, the novice shaman begins to undergo tests that pass sequentially, as he grows, as the onion begins to peel him, and the deeper the layer, the harder the skin is torn off. Besides the fact that the shaman is cleared of his old defects, every second he is watched so that he does not accumulate new ones.
And if a neophyte does not understand what is happening to him, begins to use the power given to him by spirits, for mercenary purposes, becomes arrogant and arrogant, elevates himself over his fellow tribesmen, then the cup overflows and the proud man pours with red-hot lead. This is not just an allegory, Friends, this is exactly how it happens.
And now just think about it — the shaman should help people, practically without refusing (there are, of course, exceptions), fight and fight for the health and souls of those who addressed him, observe all calendar rites, so as not to lose the favor of the spirits and their support.
Constantly learn and improve, so as not to get stuck and not ossify. In the eyes of loved ones, he becomes a stranger, because his views and vision of the world are completely alien to our society.
And along with all this, to cope with his internal enemies, which he has accumulated during the life of an ordinary person a great many.
Is there a lot of romance in it? Many can now say that all this is not so terrible, that all this can be overcome, because there are different practices of purification and all that. Ten years ago I would have agreed with them, but today …, today I’ll just say nothing of such exclamations …
All of the above, Friends, is not intended to scare or intimidate anyone, and it can’t be a slogan either that shamanism is a terrible and pernicious activity! Shamanism — The greatest culture, to be a shaman — Great honor and great challenge, no doubt!
All this was written only to ensure that those who strive so eagerly to become a shaman, first of all, would think it over and weigh it. And it will be much better if you first deeply study shamanism and the fate of the shamans, before looking for the Teacher and Initiations, the benefit of this is now enough to write and speak, just be more attentive to the sources of information.
Nowadays, having money, you can even buy a shaman’s dedication, for the money you will even get the helpers’ spirits, but think about how all this can end. Entering into the world of spirits is not an honest way, you risk getting not honest helpers in their world, and this, to put it mildly, is not safe!
Therefore, to everyone who is on the Path of Search, I sincerely wish you success! And think, study, practice and weigh.
And it is better to listen to your Heart when you learn to hear the Heart, then on the Path of the Shaman it will be much easier for you to cope with all the trials and temptations of this Beautiful and Hard Path — the Path of Good, the Path of Freedom!
What is shamanism and how to become a shaman?
Author Alla Gromova
We are increasingly confronted with the unknown and unknown world. It is difficult for us, modern people, to believe in the existence of that which cannot be touched, seen, felt.
About the existence of otherworldly worlds and beyond the abilities of mankind since ancient times. Our ancestors did not doubt the existence of spirits, their effects on life, help and support.
This knowledge was treated very reverently and reverently.
Since ancient times, it is known about such a concept as shamanism. What is shamanism?
Shamans in this world become guides of the world of the beyond. Each shaman is ancestor — the shaman.
It is, as a rule, his blood relative who has gone to another world or living in this world. In other words, the teacher is at the same time the patron.
There are several ways to transfer shamanic knowledge.
How to get shaman knowledge?
First of all, I would like to note that the knowledge of the sacred character is kept in the strictest secrecy. They are transmitted in the following ways:
- Inheritance (from ancestor — the shaman to someone from the successors of the clan, after his death).
- By the choice of nature (spirits can determine their chosen one).
- On his own initiative (when a person wishes to become a shaman himself or a generation orders him)
How is shamanic knowledge inherited?
The transfer of knowledge by inheritance occurs, as a rule, on the deathbed. The grandfather shaman invites to himself a son or grandson, that is, one of his descendants and transfers knowledge.
But this transfer is not in the form of books or notebooks. This particular information is transmitted through dreams, and rite.
Also, knowledge can be obtained using the technique of entering into a trance.
By means of the rite, the ancestor — the shaman represents his pupil to the highest spirits.
For some nations this is a whole ritual. A person who is not prepared may even think that he is going crazy, as he begins to hear the voices of deceased ancestors or other spirits.
Ancestor shaman — becomes a teacher for his descendant, gives him his power in the form of his spirit helpers, of course, knowledge of how to control spirits, how to travel around worlds, how to cure diseases.
Who does nature choose?
There is an opinion that shaman knowledge is not only inherited. Sometimes spirits stop their choice on any of the people who do not have shamans. There is no exact information on how this selection occurs.
But such a person will need to find his own place in the world of sacred knowledge, as he will not have strong support of the clan.
Shamans, who left this world even thousands of years ago, have a special power. They begin to energetically attract the person on whom the choice of spirits fell. The chosen person begins to receive knowledge or information that pulls him to the shaman’s burial place.
And, having been at that place, the chosen one begins to feel in himself the appearance of super power and supernatural abilities.
The dead shaman becomes a teacher and guide, that is, according to the shamanic hierarchy, the ancestor shaman. That is, the chosen one appears his shamanic race.
Wanted and became?
Well, of course not. In our world, it has become fashionable and popular to talk about superhuman abilities.
Many people want to stand out and become the owner of any special knowledge. But not everything is so simple.
It usually happens on its own initiative. A person finds a teacher and with his help develops his abilities.
Initially, this is possible tribute to fashion.
And while the student is only “dabbling”, he gets knowledge of “safe”, that is, those with which he can not harm an innocent person. While he is an amateur. And the spirits will not demand anything strictly — sacrifices, pilgrimages, and observance of strict rituals.
And if after passing through this stage a student wants to take an initiation into shamans, then everything changes.
And the one who passed the dissection rite (the strongest shaman initiation) no longer has a way back.
On the role of the ancestor — the shaman.
Each shaman is led by the spirit of the ancestor — the shaman. This is the patron spirit.
His role is exceptional, as he opens the world of spirits for the student and gives him his experience. This may be a deceased relative or a spirit who has chosen a student for himself. The process of knowledge transfer can occur in several ways:
- during sleep;
- during the shamanic disease;
- in the process of ritual — the sacred shaman ritual.
Ancestor — the shaman inclines his chosen one to change his lifestyle. He begins to lead a person through life. Becomes a teacher and patron.
An ancestor shaman during a trance, as it were, introduces his disciple to spirits. Teaches who and what to contact.
Shows how to go to these spirits.
Shamanism is a serious direction. This is an interesting and complex chain of relationships with ancestors.
The choice of spirits falls on people of decent and high moral values. Real shamans are the guides between the real and the other world.
They bear a great responsibility for the knowledge gained.
Shamans of Tuva — who are they and what is their way of life?
Hello, dear readers!
Today we will continue to look at the fascinating topic of shamanism and get to know better what they are, the shamans of Tuva, of whom there are seven hundred and twenty-five before the thirties. Half of the inhabitants of this country are in some way connected with shamanism.
We can say that this land is literally saturated with his spirit.
Local shamans gather once a year to celebrate Shagaa, the lunar New Year.
They believe that the place of confluence of the Big and Small Yenisei into the mighty full-flowing Yenisei, which is the geographical center of Asia, is perfectly suited for meeting the sunrise on this day.
It is believed that this event is vital for the shamans, and if you miss it, you can find many failures in the coming year.
What distinguishes a genuine shaman
As we wrote earlier, after the initiation, they become shamans — a shamanic disease that tells the sick person that he has the ability for this type of activity. For the most part, the skill of shamanism is transmitted through representatives of the genus.
But the path of the shaman is not ordered to anyone. After all, we all know very little about our potential.
Currently, a stream of people who wish to become shamans who feel the call to this occupation has rushed to Tuva. It is impossible to teach this, but an experienced person can see those abilities (if any) in the challenger and help them develop.
People are trained and receive a certificate at the end of the course. It is issued by the local Scientific Center for the Study of Tuvan Shamanism.
However, the testimony does not give the status of a shaman. One can only learn how to get in touch with spirits on one’s own, while teachers only state the fact of the student’s ability to enter into such a state.
Those who failed to do this, unfortunately, are denied evidence.
Genuine shamans never charge for their services and do not advertise themselves. They accept remuneration for the performed ritual in the amount that the visitor intends to give. And in the harsh taiga conditions, where money is useless, other values are used:
- warm roof over your head
- respectful attitude.
Why do shamans unite
Real shamans are strong and solid personalities, and by nature they are loners. What makes them unite? In memory of Tuvan shamans, memories of Stalin’s repressions, which touched practically everyone, are still alive.
Therefore, the fear of persecution is now forcing them to stick together.
Also, on the wave of heightened interest in shamanism, various impostors and commercial-shamans appear, who have little in common with the ancient art of shamanism. The creation of shamanistic organizations and sets one of their goals to dissociate themselves from such false shamans.
Until recently, there were seven such organizations in the republic.
Modernity and shamanism
Now all shamans of Tuva are led by the Supreme Shaman. This is the seventy-year-old Kara-ool Tyulyushevich Dopchun-ool.
He is not the first time elected to this position.
High Shaman Kara-ool Tyulyushevich Dopchun-ool
This year elections were held in early June. This Tuvinian is also the head of the official shamanist organization, which has no analogues in Russia anymore.
It is called “Adyg-Eeren — Spirit of the Bear”.
It all started with the fact that in 2000, Dopchun-ool became the chief shaman of the republic, in which he was issued a certificate under number 1. Mongush issued it Borahovich Kenin-Lopsan. This man is 93 years old (and according to his calculations — 95), and he is a living legend of the republic.
Poet and writer, Doctor of Historical Sciences Kenin-Lopsan (who still has many other professions and honorary titles) devoted a lot of time to research and propaganda of Tuvans’ folk culture.
Despite the fact that his parents were ordinary people (narrator and shaman), he reached unprecedented heights in professional growth. In times of trouble for shamanism in the middle of the last century, Lopsan traveled around his country and looked for shamans, as if collecting folklore materials.

For achievements in the development of shamanistic traditions, the Americans noted him with the title “Living treasure of shamanism” (only two citizens of America have this title except for him).
With the beginning of the revival of folk traditions, Lopsan organized a society of shamans “Dungur” in Kyzyl, which means “tambourine”. “Dungur” is now included in the All-Tuva shaman organization “Tos Deer of the Republic of Tuva”. These organizations pay taxes, the shamans of old age receive a pension, the shamans who get children are a child allowance.
Since the end of the last century, local shamanism has become the object of research by international scientists. The year 1993 was marked by the American-Tuva conference.
Tuvan shamans and those who professionally investigate their practice from many countries of the world became its members. Among them:
The conference adopted a government resolution signed by the Tuva President on the establishment of a research center at the Tuva Museum of Local Lore called the Aldan-Maadyr.
National Museum of the Republic of Tyva Aldan-Maadyr
Kenin-Lopsan was appointed as a manager. The purpose of creating this center was to further study the local unique phenomenon — Tuvan shamanism.
For this, a separate wooden building was allocated in the courtyard of the museum, where Lopsan personally communicates with visitors.
Shamanism, as one of the recognized religions of Tuvans, is supported at the state level, albeit to a lesser extent than the Buddhist teachings. Every lunar month, on the twenty-fifth, the shaman conducts a rite in the reception room of the President of the Republic.
Her government provided the shamanists with buildings and land, both in Kyzyl and in other places.
The house on the main street of Kyzyl is set aside for various needs:
1) Firstly, up to six shamans are received here at the same time, who treat and perform other rituals. They are replaced every month by colleagues from other places of the republic.
2) Secondly, the Dungur Children’s Education Center operates here, which was founded by the famous shaman Saylyk-ool Ivanovich Kanchyir-ool, who is also an honored cultural worker of the republic.
The names of these two famous people, Kanchyir-ool and Kenin-Lopsan, are associated with different points of view on the development of shamanism. The first does not consider this belief to be original, he has supporters in other regions of Russia who adhere to his rites.
They say that Kanchyir-ool is so strong that it can even cause rain. He believes that people of different faiths should be friends by definition, since from the very beginning nature is their mother to all of them.
Kenin-Lopsan, on the contrary, is fighting for the purity of the primordially popular faith. The subject of his pride is a unique shamanic civilization.
He does not approve of both merging with Buddhism and the fact that his Supreme Lamas use foreign cars and accept other material assistance from foreign citizens.
Kenin-Lopsan is deeply convinced that shamanism was the first religion in the whole world, and all other spiritual trends are its derivatives. Also, according to him, shaman traditions are most fully preserved in Tuva.
The connection of different generations of shamans manifested itself in a ritual called «Deep into the Ages.» Thirty thousand years of the existence of shamanism were celebrated with this rite in Tuva.
The shamans from Tuva and other places of the world were transported during the kamlanie to the Stone Age and took over their practice from their ancient colleagues.
There were no such precedents in the world before. This powerful rite has been held at the end of summer for several years.
Some researchers and scientists consider it incorrect to attribute shamanism to religion. They believe that he is closer to the occult.
The abilities of shamans, in their opinion, are inherent in all people and consist in the ability to perceive and interpret reality in a certain way.
Believe or not the shamans — the personal choice of each. But two points tend to make a positive decision: the duration of the existence of shamanism and the cases of curing patients who were refused official medicine.
