Need a recipe. And not just a recipe, but a correct recipe, preferably from a family cookbook or told by a German grandmother.

I have such a grandmother. Her name is Eve. For her 82 years she has baked thousands of cookies for children, grandchildren and all friends in the neighborhood.

When she decided to make repairs in the kitchen last Christmas and temporarily could not use the oven, Frau Eva’s entourage fell into nervous anxiety — Christmas was on the nose, and there were no cookies, no order.

Today, our grandmother is at the stove again — baking, telling, advising.

Vanilla Kipferl

No festive winter feast can do without these delicate bagels. «For them, Frau Eve notes, it is very important to find a real vanilla pod, only then the cookies will have a taste of childhood.«.

What do you need:

  • 200 g flour
  • 175 g cold butter
  • 100 g ground almonds
  • 80 g sugar
  • 25 g vanilla sugar (for crushing)
  • 2 yolks
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • ¼ tsp sea ​​salt

What to do:
Cut butter into cubes. Vanilla pod cut with a knife along and scrape out the seeds. Add flour, sugar, butter, yolks, almonds, vanilla seeds and salt to the blender bowl.

Punch until a uniform crumb. Then collect the dough with your hands in a bowl. Divide the ball into two equal parts, roll each into a sausage.

Wrap in foil and refrigerate for at least two hours.

Cut the dough into slices with a thickness of 1.5-2 cm. Roll each slice into a ball, and then make a crescent of it.

Formed cookies lay out on a baking sheet.

Heat the oven to 180 ° C. Bake for about 15 minutes.

Cookies become light golden.

Add vanilla sugar on a plate. Hot cookies, removing from the pan, it is necessary to carefully roll in the sugar on both sides.

Fold in the box.

Grandmothers «Stars with cinnamon»
Oma`s Zimtsterne — It’s not as easy to make this delicious cookie as it seems.

But your efforts will be rewarded: the cookies will be spicy to the taste, with a hard shiny glaze and soft inside.

What do you need:

  • 500 g ground almonds
  • 450 g of powdered sugar
  • 5 proteins
  • ½ orange (lime, mandarin or grapefruit)
  • 3 tbsp. l cherry liquor
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 2-3 peas ground allspice
  • ¼ tsp salt

What to do:
Sugar powder sift.

Squeeze the juice out of the orange.
In a clean glass bowl, beat the whites with a mixer until hard peaks.

Gradually, without ceasing to beat, inject small amounts of powder in small portions, and then add orange juice.

In a separate container set aside 5 tbsp. l this mass for glaze.

In the remaining protein mass add cinnamon, cloves, liquor, almonds, salt and mix thoroughly.

Wrap the dough into a film and put it in the fridge for an hour.

Sprinkle the work surface evenly with sugar (3 mm thick). Quickly roll out the dough and cut out the «stars» with a mold.

Grease each cookie with a deferred glaze, transfer to a baking tray lined with paper, and leave to dry.

Bake the next day in the oven, preheated to 160 ° C, 10-12 minutes.

Anise cookies
If you think that Frau Eve is one of those who during the celebration forgets about the figure, no and no again!

Each piece of anise cookies from Frau Eva — only 20 calories.

What do you need:

  • 150 g flour
  • 150 grams of powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp ground anise

What to do:
In a deep bowl with a mixer, beat the eggs with powdered sugar, add anise and sifted flour.


It should make a thick, sticky mass (like honey).
