Choosing a juicer

The principle of operation of the juicer is clear from the title. Juice from the product with all the most useful — in one container, cake — in another.

They are designed for all types of vegetables, fruits and berries. However, for squeezing juice out of citrus fruits, special nozzles or a separate device are required, and only powerful machines with a very durable filter can squeeze berries with stones. The principle of operation, regardless of the manufacturer, is the same: the motor rotates the grater with high speed, which crushes the product, separating the pulp from the juice.

And here an important role is played by power, the speed of rotation of the knife. A big plus is the ability to choose the speed of the device.

So, Philips HR 1861 (700 W, 12,500 rpm,), Bimatek J-1550 CUP (500 W, 5000–7500 rpm, PULSE mode), Kenwood JE 810 (850 W, 12,000 rpm ./min., electronic overload protection) and many other juicers have two working speeds. The juicier and softer the fruit, the slower the spin speed should be.

For tomatoes, 6–8 thousand turns are enough, otherwise the juice will not be squeezed, but will go into puree, and for a maximum spin of carrots or cabbage, 10–12 thousand are desirable in order to properly press an unyielding vegetable to the walls of the filter.

After all, the end result is a maximum of juice.

The purity of the juice is affected by the presence of a filter in the juice extractors, one or several, which delays the ground pulp.

Juice it clears, but at the same time he is clogged with pulp, small bones.

The fact that the filter is clogged, prompts a drop in the flow rate and a change in the consistency of the juice.

Many modern models have several degrees of security, including protection against overheating, automatic stopping when solid objects get inside or accidental opening.

Universal juicers are called separators. A separator is an apparatus that separates a product into different fractions, in our case, into juice and cake. Separators juicers are cylindrical and conical.

At the core of its work is the principle of slow (speed 82 rpm) rotation of two steel rotors, which, moving products along the length, carefully (press force 3 hp) squeeze them all to the last drop. And the cake after such a spin is so dry that it can be set on fire with a match.

The lack of high speed contributes to the preservation of enzymes and other nutrients, so the manufacturer calls this juice «live».

Many consumers prefer orange juice to all others, so most manufacturers in the household appliance lines, in addition to juicers with nozzles for citrus, necessarily have separate “citrus presses”.

Limes, lemons, oranges, grapefruits have a rather thick, durable and bitter rind, so the task of the juicer for such fruits is to extract the juice from the middle of the fruit, which is called, “not spoiling the skins”. Citrus juicers are small and of low (25–100W) power. But this is enough for high-quality extraction of juice.

It is enough to cut the fruit in half and press half into the rotating nozzle.

When choosing a «citrus press» you should not be guided by the power and speed of rotation of the nozzle, but by simplicity in work, ease of care, maximum juice yield. The undoubted advantages are removable nozzles of several diameters, alternate rotation of the nozzle in a clockwise direction and against it, the presence of several filters to clean the juice.

Of course, the protective dust cover, blocking from accidental switching on, low noise level, and anti-skid suction plates will not interfere either.

The use of very high quality materials, carefully designed design and ergonomics can not affect the price.

For example, the Bork JU CUP 9911 BK citrus press will cost you 10–12 thousand rubles, but according to the owners of this device, they would never exchange it for another, cheaper one.

In the process of working under the nozzle of any citrus press a lot of fruit pulp accumulates.

In this price category, it is necessary to look for the optimal price-quality ratio.

Completing the pyramid model of business class, for demanding customers, from 10 thousand rubles. These include the above-mentioned juicers from Rotel, Angel Co Ltd, Bork and some others. But manufacturers of such equipment promise that heavy-duty materials and a well-thought-out design will allow it to withstand continuous attacks of hard vegetables and stone fruits — raspberries, currants for decades.
